A few weeks ago Sara from An Elemental Life sent me some belt inspiration via Pinterest. Being the resourceful woman that she is, Sara decided that we were going to make these belts to cinch up all of the cute dresses we think we’re sewing this year. During her spring break we went on a field trip to our local Tandy Leather to peruse tools, belt blanks and hardware.
I had no idea what the plan was and kept gravitating towards a heinous, metallic gold, sale hide that I ended up bringing home with me. Sara grabbed 72″ belt blanks, all of the accessories and hole punches. We also picked out stamps for visual interest and to kind of copy our inspiration picture.
They ended up being such a fun and quick project! We met up at Sara’s one afternoon, ate an entire pizza then got to work. We used razor blades to skive the leather for the belt buckle, but other than that we pretty much just punched a few holes and attached brass hardware. So fast! They’re not treated, but will darken with time. Next time we’d like to experiment with leather dye.
I don’t remember the exact costs, but I think these ended up being about $25 each to make. That includes tools that we’ll be reusing. Such a good deal!
It was fun to do something besides sewing or knitting, so we’re definitely going to continue with random diy projects. I think dyeing is high on our priority list and I’m completely obsessed with these shark teeth earrings. Sans glitter.
Moss Making Month is still in full swing, so I hope you guys are making some too! Check out Jen’s linen version, Allie’s first and Sara’s denim one. SO CUTE! I’ll have one or two to share this weekend.
